Pakistan, a country ensconced in religious extremism, leads the world in Google homosexual porn searches, even though the act of gay sex is illegal under the Pakistani penal code.

Considered one of the world’s least tolerant nations, a recent Pew Research Center poll found that just 2% of Pakistanis believe that homosexuality should be accepted in their country. Yet, Pakistan is the world leader in searches for homoerotic web content including “she-male sex”, “teen anal sex” and “man fucking man”. The county scores a second place ranking (Kenya leads) for “gay sex pics” searches.

Alex Park, from the independent news organization Mother Jones, interviewed Farahnaz Ispahani, a former member of Pakistani parliament and an expert in Pakistani minorities at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Ispahani believes that gay sex is so forbidden in Muslim culture that merely speaking of it is taboo and that religious extremism drives gay men into a world of secrecy to protect their safety, which includes a high usage of gay internet pornography.

It is also interesting to note that the city with the highest rate of gay porn searches is Peshawar which is considered the country’s most conservative Islamic city.
