Local Puerto Vallarta married couples and residents reflect on US Marriage Equality of June 26, 2015.
See what locals are saying about this decision and their marriage memories.
Jim Lee and Sean Carey
On June 12, 2004, Sean and I were married in Provincetown, Mass. when it was the only state recognizing gay marriage. Now, today, an extraordinary day, our marriage is recognized everywhere in the US, including our home state of Texas. I thought that was going to take another decade or so! I'm very proud of my country today!
Sid Goodman and Keith May
Married in 2008 in California ... now legal in the US and Mexico. Who'd a thunk it?
Bob Bruneau and Gerardo
Gerardo and I, LEGAL, in all 50 states!
Rey Martinez and Barry Nielson
Now we are Equal! Where's the Party?
Shawn Jackson and Tyler Barlow
Equality for all!! Let's celebrate in NYC!!! GETTING MARRIED IN PUERTO VALLARTA July 27, 2015
I don't care who gets married as long as they are good to their dog.
Don Pickens and David Estrada
One day, you wake up and you realize you want to be with the person you love, and you want it recognized: by immigration authorities, by hospitals, by tax authorities and more. I felt like the gay community itself wasn’t ready for marriage..no one seemed to have worried about ours! How times change, in less than 20 years.
Christian Serrano and Eric Serrano
Great historic day for human rights for all people in the United States
Debbie Brolin Egan
So happy for all of those who married, took a chance on love and each other, without the benefit of our government gifting them a license! You didn't give in or up, so happy and proud for and of you!
Danny Mininni and Oscar
I honestly never thought I would live to see this day. First time since 911 that I had tears from watching the news. Oscar just asked if he can get a visa to the U.S. On many occasions Oscar has asked me to marry him. I have always said I will never get married again till it is legal in all 50 states. Today I explained to him why that was so important. How it is not just a piece of paper, How it is also for my protection and for his protection. Both of our rights in life, in sickness and in death. His benefits once I die. Once he understood, he cried.
The Kinsey Sicks
We, The Kinsey Sicks, condemn the Supreme Court's decision to allow same-sex couples to marry because it ruins the sanctity of our song, “(Locked Out of the) Chapel of Love”. Check it out here as part of our #ThrowbackThursday (since yesterday it was still illegal).#MarriageEquality
Nothing could make be happier to take a break from my FB break than to share in the celebration of this truly monumental day. I could not be prouder to be on U.S. soil today. Liberty and justice for ALL!
For me personally, this is what the SCOTUS decision was about today, saving young peoples' lives. It's estimated that over 1/3 of young LGBT folks attempt suicide.
Mark Chesnut (writer) and Angel Ramirez
Love: We're now legal in all 50 states -- and Puerto Rico! We've been together for 24 years, registered as domestic partners for 22 years, and married for one year. Now, we can FINALLY live in any state we want without losing benefits!
Today is an awesome day! I woke up to the SCOTUS decision!!! I know it's not over, not civil rights issue ever is, there will always be haters! But now my future kids and nieces and nephews will grow up in a world where marriage is marriage, not traditional or gay. What an amazingly wonderful day!
Chi Chi Rones
Wow. Proud to be an AMERICAN today who just happens to be gay. Thank you SCOTUS for doing the right thing. NOW...who is going to put a ring on it?
