PUERTO VALLARTA CONTINUES TO CO-STAR IN HIGH PROFILE PROJECTS
Puerto Vallarta’s natural beauty once attracted Richard Burton to film in the destination in the 60’s, since then the destination has served as more than just a backdrop of productions but a co-star that continues to attract Hollywood films as well as trending television programs and photoshoots.
In the first two months of 2017 the destination has already hosted major television programs, from Inside Edition to the Housewives of New York to an extended recording of episodes of W.E TV’s The Braxton Family Values. Promotion of the Braxton sisters’ visit to Puerto Vallarta will start in early March as the show readies for the premiere of its new season.
According to Agustin Alvarez, Director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board, hosting television and other high profile media in the destination are an important element in the continuous promotion of the destination and particularly help in positioning the destination in front of target consumers.
W.E.’s specific reach to women and families in addition to the Braxton sisters’ continuous success in the pop world offer a 1.5 million weekly viewership valued in millions of US dollars,” said Alvarez, “The demographics are perfect for possible new visitors to Puerto Vallarta.” In 2016, Braxton Family Values was W.E. most successful program with the coveted 18-40 demographic, attracting viewership similar to that of the last season of American Idol or Bachelor in Paradise’s second season or the first season of FYI,’s Arranged, both of which also featured Puerto Vallarta.
In early February, the city was also the stage for a photoshoot of the only print magazine focusing on LGBT travel: Passport Magazine. The 20-page layout focuses on the city’s historical and cultural offerings as well as the city’s surrounding locations. The aim being to help redefine the current LGBT offerings of the destination and its surroundings. Targeting the coveted family marker will host a recording of an episode of PBS’s Weekend Explorer in March. The production will also feature the contemporary offerings the destination has to the station and program viewership which airs locally in all of Puerto Vallarta’ natural and key markets in the United States.
